Today i want to share a single word with you all. It's simple word that pertains to the recent downpour of totally refreshing rainshowers. It's the most odd of words with a very swell definition too!
I present to you PETRICHOR!
Merriam-Webster defines it as "a distinctive, earthy, usually pleasant odor that is associated with rainfall especially when following a warm, dry period and that arises from a combination of volatile plant oils and geosmin released from the soil into the air and by ozone carried by downdrafts."
"From the 1960's blend of petro ‘relating to rocks’ and ichor or 'tenuous essence' derived from rock or stone."
Four months ago, while talking with a good friend named Chico, we were discussing how much we like olfactory scents that trigger memories. I said gasoline and the smell of evaporating rain on pavement. Then she mentioned this very word-of-the-day we're analyzing NOW and i didn't believe her. How could there really be a term for that strange and subtle thing!?
But sure enough, here it is.
Now one last word which is equally relevant....
Ciao for now!
